McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams
Project Desciption
Situated in a quaint neighborhood north of Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, Assembledge+ designed a storefront for McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams to reflect the craftsmanship of a family-owned ice-cream company.
Formerly a tailor and hair salon, space took over two retail front stores with the intent to become a community anchor as a farmer’s market fills the area weekly. The store opens onto the street with a large glass window and directly connects the shop to the surrounding neighborhood. Outside, a 17-foot wooden bench enhances the communal ambience, inviting the crowd to linger, and pushing the vibrancy of the store outside.
Inside, white tile, wooden shelves, wooden beams, darkened steel, and concrete floors, enhance the space’s rawness and openness. Across the counter, a 1962 postcard of Studio City covers an entire wall, functioning as a not and throwback to the tight-knit community.
